TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe gets ‘Magnetic’

If you were an indie music fan in the early 2000s, you probably came across the band TV on the Radio. Maybe you even caught them live or saw their iconic performance on Letterman in 2006.

Even among heavy hitters on the indie music scene at the time, including bands like the Strokes, the White Stripes, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio was able to stand out with a devoted fanbase and a unique sound that included loud guitars, synthesizers, an energetic lead singer, and great production.

Now the band’s lead singer, Tunde Adebimpe, is back to making music, but this time as a solo artist.

Adebimpe’s new song “Magnetic” is energetic, aggressive, and very well produced. His vocals really shine in this one, as he shows off his range. Sometimes when a member of a great band goes solo it can be hit or miss, Adebimpe more than hits with “Magnetic.”

Adebimpe has now signed with Sub Pop, and his new solo record is slated for release in 2025.

“We heartily welcome Tunde Adebimpe to Sub Pop’s roster of artists,” said Sub Pop founder Jonathan Poneman in a statement. His inclusion makes the whole lot better—and a whole lot classier! We’ve waited 20-plus years for Sub Pop to earn the chance to be Tunde Adebimpe’s label.”

Alongside his new solo career, Adebimpe has been busy in other ways, too. A veteran actor (his credits include Spider-Man: Homecoming and Rachel Getting Married), he played Dexter in the new movie Twisters. He’s also in the upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

“I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, but I am in the show, in the whole series, which is coming out at the end of the year,” he tells the Hollywood Reporter.

On top of that, Adebimpe also recently joined up with TV on the Radio for the band’s first performances in more than five years. The band’s upcoming dates include New York, L.A., and London.

Adebimpe is an indie-music veteran at this point, but with the release of “this new single”Magnetic,” it feels like he’s getting started all over again.
