Bono and the Edge of Irish band U2 recorded an acoustic version of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday massacre that inspired the song.

Shot in black and white, the video features the U2 singer and guitarist alone in a room performing with mics and an acoustic guitar. Watch it above.

The Bloody Sunday massacre occured in Derry, Northern Ireland on January 30, 1972. Twenty-six people were shot and 13 killed, with 14th person dying later due to injuries from the event. The New York Times recently shared images and a story about the event. As Alan Cowell writes, “When the questioning was done, the conclusion was drawn by some that the killings by British soldiers on Jan. 30, 1972, had earned a place alongside the Sharpeville shootings in South Africa in 1960 and the Tiananmen Square killings in Beijing in 1989 as exemplars of lethal violence in the name of a state, directed against those who sought to defy its writ.”
