April showers bring… Torch & Twang

A Selection Of Songs From This Week’s Show

This Sunday, Margot will be hosting Torch & Twang. I’ll be in New Orleans, checking out some new music for Torch & Twang.

In the meantime, please take a listen to some songs that have been on repeat while preparing the show.

One of them even has a very New Orleans flair to it, coming from southerner Paul Thorn. The song begins, “Down in New Orleans, the pourin’ rain is flooding the streets and lake Pontchartrain,” driving behind a marching back beat, reminding us all why we love the city.

Up the highway and into the Midwest, we have a 2014 song from Trampled By Turtles, who come from Minnesota. They’re playing Red Rocks on July 19. The Colorado Sound is thrilled to present that one!

And be sure to take a close listen to “Demons Don’t Get Me Down” – the very talented Lindi Ortega sounds like she was singing at you right from the honky tonk stage. She’s from Canada which speaks to the power of this rootsy sound.

Listening to these songs a bunch of times this week, it reminds me how diverse Americana is. There are literally no borders.

Here’s hoping that you can tune in at 7 am on Sunday to listen to Margot take the helms in all things roots and Americana.

As they say in New Orleans, “L’aissez bon temps roullet.”

Amanda Shires “Look Like A Bird”
Paul Thorn “Better Days Ahead”
The Wood Brothers “I Got Loaded”
Trampled By Turtles “Wild Animals”
Lindi Ortega “Demons Don’t Get Me Down”
Tift Merritt “In The Way”
