A new, state-of-the-art indoor music venue is coming to Denver’s rapidly growing River North District, or RiNo. The Mission Ballroom will anchor the new mixed-use North Wynkoop development along Brighton Boulevard.

The new venture is part of a partnership between music promoter AEG Presents Rocky Mountains and real estate developer Westfield Company. The project was announced with a promotional video featuring a virtual tour of the venue, as well as an overview of the plans for North Wynkoop.

Opening in 2019

Slated to open summer 2019, the venue is already under construction, said Don Strasburg, co-president of AEG Presents Rocky Mountains, in the video.

Design for The Mission Ballroom — which includes an expandable stage and a flexible capacity that can range from 2,200 to 3,950 — will borrow from some of Colorado’s best music venues, including Red Rocks.

While it will include space for a dance floor in front of the stage, the venue also will feature tiered seating — a “first” for indoor venues in Colorado, according to Strasburg.

“At every angle, every patron has an uninterrupted view,” Strasburg said, adding that “a clean sight-line of the stage also means a clean sound-line.”

The venue is a jewel in the crown of veteran Colorado concert promoter Chuck Morris.

On a Mission

“For the last 48 years, I’ve been on a mission to build the finest venues and events for the greatest music community in the world,” said Morris, AEG Presents Rocky Mountains’ CEO.

The video to announce the project also included a cameo by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who praised what the venue could mean not only locally, but nationally, as well.

“When Chuck Morris puts his mind to creating one of the great theater spaces in Colorado, you know it’s going to be one of the great spaces in America,” Hickenlooper said.

Plenty of office and retail space

Additional phases of North Wynkoop will follow The Mission’s opening. The development’s initial plans include 175,000 square feet of new retail and office space.

“Future phases will include market rate and affordable housing, a boutique hotel and close to a million square feet of additional commercial space,” said Kevin McClintock, a partner at Westfield Company. “North Wynkoop will be Denver’s new front door.”
