Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever sends us a live session from Down Under, wishing everyone in Colorado – and beyond – well. The Australian five-piece played two songs of their new album, Sideways To New Italy, plus one from 2018’s Hope Downs.
Led by guitarists Tom Russo, Joe White, and Fran Keaney (plus bassist Joe Russo and drummer Marcel Tussie), the band wrote their new album with a lot on their mind. Recorded this year after relentless touring, the band maintains their guitar-laden sound with something more personal this time around.
Keaney said the new record helped them through some trying times. “I wanted to write songs that I could use as some sort of bedrock of hopefulness to stand on, something to be proud of. A lot of the songs on the new record are reaching forward and trying to imagine an idyll of home and love.”
Hopes Downs landed on year-end best-of lists as did their 2016 EP Talk Tight.
