Happy Birthday, Bob!

The Colorado Sound Celebrated Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday!

From Dylan’s beginnings in music as “Bob Zimmerman” and “Elston Gunn” to his early career in the Greenwich Village folk scene, his appearance at the March On Washington For Jobs And Freedom, to his stop in Fort Collins with the Rolling Thunder Revue, from his albums hailed and panned, his many collaborations, his movie work, his numerous awards in and out of the field of music, to the many, many musicians he has influenced, all the way to the only number one hit he’s had under his own name, and even the infamous Victoria’s Secret commercial, the Colorado Sound will celebrate it all.

How well do you know Bob Dylan’s career?

Test yourself here, here, here, and here. (No cheating!)

In a career as long and storied as Dylan’s, he’s been written about thousands of times. In such a lengthy career, Dylan is bound to have some pretty badass moments. The music magazine NME compiled some of their favorites. He’s also had some pretty funny moments.

Dylan has done lots of benefit shows, including the Concert For Bangla Desh, Live Aid, and Farm Aid. In fact, it was an offhand comment that Dylan made from the Live Aid stage that inspired Farm Aid.

He’s been featured in the benefit songs “We Are The World” as part of USA for Africa and on “Sun City” as a part of Artists United Against Apartheid.

It’s well known that Dylan doesn’t suffer fools gladly. (To be fair, he gets asked some really dumb questions.) Here he is cracking up a press conference, letting a Time Magazine interviewer know his questions missed the mark, and sitting down with Ed Bradley on 60 Minutes

Bob Dylan is famous for a lot of firsts, including the infamous “plugged in” Newport Folk Festival in 1965. He also released the first (just shy of) 6 minute single, also in 1965. He’s the first musician to have a Top 40 charted album in each decade since the 1960s.

People are fascinated by Dylan and will collect lots of “fun facts” about him. In the 1960s, AJ Weberman was so fascinated by Dylan that he made a nuisance of himself stalking Dylan’s garbage. He even coined a phrase for it: “Garbology“.

Bob has had some famous romances. Some romances inspired songs that he wrote and some romances inspired songs about him.

Enjoy the celebration!

Happy Birthday, Bob!
