The Colorado Sound’s FoCoMX Picks

FoCoMX
Strange Americans are playing at The Aggie, on Saturday night. They are Margot’s band to see this weekend at FoCoMX.

It’s time for FoCoMX – here are the shows we have personally circled on our schedule.

Enjoy the music this weekend!

Benji’s Picks

John Magnie’s Honky Tonk Happy Hour  – Prost Brewing Company, Friday, 10:30 pm

Longtime Subdude John Magnie always creates fun and inventive music. Plus, he’s a triple threat with skills on the keyboards, accordion and vocals. This should be one terrific set, and you can see it on Friday night.

12 Cents for Marvin – Odell Brewing Company, Saturday, 5:00 pm

On Saturday evening, be sure to catch 12 Cents for Mavin. Nobody does old school ska better than 12 Cents for Marvin. This should be the perfect transition from the afternoon into the evening. If the weather cooperates, Odell’s Brewing Company will be rocking.

Ron’s Picks

Michael Kirkpatrick – Equinox Brewing, Friday, 3:30 pm
Michael Kirkpatrick and The Honey Rider Band – New Belgium Brewing, Saturday, 6:30 pm

Ever since I emceed the Shelby Lynne show at the Ft. Collins Armory in 2015, I’ve been a fan of the opener, Michael Kirkpatrick. I tried to get him to play the BolderBoulder one year but his tour schedule got in the way. It’s still wonderful to see him around town, whether at The Forge or just out on the street. Check him out!

Liz Barnez – Avagadro’s Number, Saturday, 8 pm

She honed her skills in her hometown of New Orleans then brought that bluesy-folk feel here and mixed in some Colorado sound. Liz has been part of the FoCo/NoCo scene for so long, it’s hard to remember it without her. Her original songs bring you places you didn’t know existed.

Margot’s Pick

Strange Americans – Aggie Theatre, Friday, 9:30 pm

If you want some straight ahead, no nonsense rock, the Aggie Theatre will be your place to be this weekend. Their newest album Borrow You Brother exudes Colorado, rough around the edges with plenty of air to breathe on stage.

Stacy’s Picks

Beyond Existence –  Sound Off Silent Disco at Old Town Square, 6 pm.

An electronic project from Kyle Surufka out of Fort Collins, hearing the lush layers of Beyond Existence will set a nice pace to the evening ahead, while getting us locked into the moment.

Silver & Gold – Washington’s, Saturday, 6:00 pm

Silver & Gold is becoming a Northern Colorado staple, so this will be a homecoming for the NoCo rockers. Point A – Point B is one of our favorite local releases this year. Hearing songs off the album at Washington’s is not to be missed.
