Duos and duets – our Summer Membership Drive music special

What do the Black Keys, the Everly Brothers, Daft Punk, OutKast, Silk Sonic, She & Him, and the White Stripes have in common? They’re all duos – musical acts with two main artists (as opposed to a solo artist, or larger groups such as trios, quartets, etc.).

As part of our upcoming two-day Summer Membership Drive, this Thursday and Friday (July 11-12) we will play music from duos in a huge range of genres, from rock and pop to country and hip-hop.

We’ll throw in some duets, too…yes, there is a difference.

Duos have been around basically as long as people have been making music. Famous duos in the early 20th century include ‘brother acts’ such as the Louvin Brothers and the Everly Brothers.

But musical duos aren’t necessarily all about sweet vocal harmonies. Think the Black Keys, the White Stripes, and the Kills; Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk; or hip-hop groups like Run the Jewels and OutKast.

So what can you expect from our music special? Maybe a song or two from the above duos, as well as a few surprises. And yes, we’ll include some duets, too. Because while a duet isn’t necessarily sung by a duo, the idea of two voices working together can be a beautiful thing.
