Watch Vintage Charlie Watts Interviews

As previously reported, Charlie Watts, drummer and foundational member of the Rolling Stones, passed away at age 80.

Watts’ drumming was an anchor of the band’s sound, and could be intense at times. “He was the engine of the Rolling Stones,” said Billy Bragg.

Watts himself, however, was a relatively soft-spoken person – the humble antithesis to Jagger’s flash. “I’m not really a rockstar,” he told NME during a 2018 interview.

Below are some vintage interview clips with Charlie that offer his perspective on the Rolling STones and their music, drumming, jazz, and other topics.
