Halloween is here! Since we recently counted down your Top 1055 Songs of the 21st Century, I figured I’d give you five scary movies of this century that you must see if you’re a fan of horror.

I shared my top 5 horror movies in a previous post (which is always subject to change, by the way), so I will not mention any movies from that previous list.

Talk to Me

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but RackaRacka (two Australian YouTubers) made an amazing horror film. It’s original, scary and the ending will make you gasp… GASP!!! Couldn’t recommend this movie enough. When you shake this severed embalmed hand, you see a ghost that you can allow to possess you… I know it sounds weird but trust me, it is one of the best horror movies in a long time. Did I mention the ending will make you gasp?

Hereditary

I was hesitant to include this one, because it feels like every horror movie fan has seen it (for good reason), but it just wouldn’t feel right not mentioning this movie. It’s so scary – Toni Collette should have won an Oscar for her performance. A nice (or weird) mixture of psychological and occult horror that will make you sleep with a light on. There are some scenes from this movie you will never forget….

The VVitch

Not just one of my favorite horror movies, but just one of my favorite movies in general. The opening scene will grab you right away, then it’s this dark, slow-burn journey the rest of the way. It’s creepy, it’s shot amazingly, and the acting is some of the best you’ll see in any movie. The fact this is Robert Eggers’ directorial debut and Anya Taylor-Joy’s feature debut is wild. It’s certainly not the scariest movie on the list, but it’s a must watch for anyone who considers themselves a fan of cinema. You’ll never look at goats the same way ever again.

The Ring

What a creepy movie…the video, the phone call, the terrifying antagonist Samara Morgan, it all comes together in this one. The Ring will strike fear into your heart and there is hardly any blood. The atmosphere just sticks with you, and you won’t be able to shake it off. The ending is one of the most iconic endings in horror movie history.

The Babadook

Another great Australian horror flick. It tackles the theme of grief so well. The monster is genuinely scary, but it’s how the characters react to what is happening to them is what makes this film what it is. You never really know if what is happening is real or just hallucinations and it just adds to the gloominess of the movie. The acting, cinematography, and music are 10/10 in this one.
