The Colorado Sound Album Of The Week is Encore from Anderson East. Encore is out January 12.

And don’t forget, Anderson East is headlining The Colorado Sound’s 2nd Annual Birthday Bash at Washington’s. The show takes place in Fort Collins on Saturday, March 17.

The Alabama-born singer is schooled in Southern music, especially modern soul. Anderson lives in Nashville now, and he has tapped Chris Stapleton, Ed Sheeran and Natalie Hemby as contributors on the new album.

It’s good teamwork. Anderson embellishes their more stripped-down approach with organs, horns, and gospel-inspired backing vocals.

And to appreciate Anderson’s range, have a listen to the Willie Nelson cover “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces”. (Here’s the Willie version.)

Anderson gives it a total redo. It’s easy to point to James Brown on that one. You might also think that “King For A Day” is a Van Morrison tribute. This is Anderson’s singular sound, and few are doing it better.

Encore is the much-anticipated release following 2015’s Delilah. Delilah was recorded at FAME Studios, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Since that album, he has been featured on the Fifty Shades Darker Soundtrack. He also made a splash on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017. He performed Encore‘s first single “All On My Mind” on the program.
