Will these ’90s bands ever get back together?
With the news of Oasis getting back together for a reunion tour in 2025, it got me thinking about which other 1990s bands might consider regrouping. I mean, it seemed delusional – and for a long time it was – to think a band like Oasis would ever reunite. But the Gallagher brothers (Liam and Noel) defied the odds, and here we are.
Below are some additional ’90s bands I hope get back together, even if it seems unlikely or even impossible. I’ve also taken a guess at the odds for each reunion.
Sonic Youth
A reunited Sonic Youth feels as big of a longshot as Oasis, if not more. Liam and Noel didn’t seem to like each other, and probably still don’t, but they are brothers. Thurston Moore has said in the past a reunion is on the table, but it’s funny coming from him. (Maybe ask a specific other member of the band, because I highly doubt Kim Gordon would want to get back in a band with her cheating ex-husband.) Whatever happens, there is no denying the influence of Sonic Youth – they made some of the best music of the ’80s and ’90s.
Odds of a reunion: 0.5/10
The White Stripes
Jack and Meg were already divorced when the White Stripes were at the height of their popularity, and it seems they maintain a decent relationship. He even defended her with a poem after someone posted a mean tweet about her last year. Jack White’s latest album, No Name, is very reminiscent of the signature White Stripes sound. Am I being delusional? Probably, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Odds of a reunion: 4.5/10
OutKast
The duo Andre 3000 and Big Boi are hip-hop royalty. They did put on a set in Atlanta earlier this year, but there has been no confirmation of a real OutKast reunion…yet. Andre is currently touring in support of his solo instrumental album New Blue Sun. It would shake the hip-hip world to its core if a new OutKast album was released in 2024.
Odds of a reunion: 6/10
Daft Punk
Daft Punk’s retirement in 2021 was shocking to the music world – though the French duo’s last album, Random Access Memories, was released back in 2013. Getting back together doesn’t seem likely…but a week ago we’d likely have said the same for Oasis.
Odds of a reunion: 4/10
Pixies w/Kim Deal
Pixies officially reunited in 2004, and founding member Kim Deal left for good in 2013. We love the Pixies, but admit it – they aren’t quite the same without Kim. Between her work with the Breeders and now her solo career (she’s released a couple new songs and and has a solo album on the way), Deal is a bit busy, so the likelihood of her rejoining Pixies is not very high. Still, one can dream.
Odds of a reunion: 2/10
