53:14 Music Video Experiment

Update: The 2024 edition of the 53:14 Music Video Experiment is complete. Congrats to all musicians and filmmakers who participated!

The world premiere screening of this year’s 53:14 music videos takes place Friday, Aug. 30 at the Lyric in Fort Collins. Admission is free.

Each year, the 53:14 Music Video Experiment pairs 10 Colorado filmmakers with 10 Colorado musicians or bands and gives them a limited window (53 hours and 14 minutes) to conceive, shoot, edit, and deliver an original music video.

Another twist? The filmmakers and musicians never know who they are working with until the kickoff event (which took place this year on August 16, 2024). At that point, filmmaker teams are randomly paired with musicians and sent off to create an original music video in just over two days.

Each team works with a budget of $1000 to use for whatever they need to complete the project.

The finished videos will premiere on Aug. 30, 2024, during a public screening at the Lyric in Fort Collins, Colo. The event, which starts at 6pm, will also feature live music from Cary Morin and Jesus Christ Taxi Driver.

Note that 53:14 is not a competition. Yes, there is an application process in order to be accepted. However, the organizers aim for 53:14 to be a collaborative, community-building experience.
