The Award Goes To…

The 2018 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees are in, and it’s a pretty diverse list. It includes Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Nina Simone.

Famed gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe will receive the Award for Early Influence. You definitely need to check her out in this archival video.

For The Moody Blues, it’s been quite a long road. The induction will arrive 29 years after first being nominated, in 1989. They probably could have been inducted on the merits of “Nights in White Satin” alone, one of their most well known songs.

For Dire Straits, the timing seems just right. There has been a seemingly growing Dire Straits resurgence in modern music, from The War on Drugs to Kurt Vile to anyone who layers on the synthesizers. Here’s hoping there’s a long drawn out jam in Cleveland during the induction from this MTV staple.

Bands and artists that didn’t get in will have a shot next year. They include Radiohead, Depeche Mode, The J. Geils Band, Eurythmics, and Link Wray.

For Nina Simone, who passed in 2003, the induction will raise her profile a lot more. Already the feature of an excellent Netflix documentary, it’s great that Ms. Simone, as she was sometimes known, will live on in annals of the hall. We leave you with her chilling rendition of “Take Me To The Water”.

Congrats one and all.
